The Power of Prayer - A Testimony of A Recent Healing

I want to write about a recent healing I experienced. What is significant about this healing isn’t the healing itself. What’s important to note is that it is imperative that we remain vigilant and not become complacent. Every day, I put on the “Armor of God” and I am watchful in my thinking. However, it is easy to get distracted by other things going on in life. It is easy to grow complacent and when that happens, things do not always go as planned.

The healing I experienced came after missing two days of work due to an “illness” that was an upper respiratory infection. This “illness” zapped my energy. Before being “sick”, I was burning the candle at both ends, keeping some late hours. I’ve been working long days. I get up early, go to work, and then come home and cook dinner and do chores. I write articles, I gather information and I make preps in the evenings. I’m busy all of the time and there’s just not enough hours in the day. My schedule is pretty crazy and I have something going on every night of the week.

So, I push myself pretty hard and sometimes I don’t get enough sleep. Some say sleep is very important to immunity and health, while others state that it’s overrated. Regardless, I like getting rest.

The “illness” started with a sore throat, runny nose and fatigue. It progressed into my lungs and I had a cough. Then I had a fever. I continued to push myself until I couldn’t go to work. I should have started sooner with prayer but I didn’t. When I finally prayed, I did so for about thirty minutes and it paid off.

By the next morning, my health was restored. My energy was restored. The soreness in my throat was gone. The cough was gone. The fever was gone. I went to work and the rest is history. The improvement was significant and remarkable. What I would like to point out is that I let my guard down. I gave in to the idea that there’s some sort of intelligence within the body and there is not. This false belief is what caused the illness.

There is only one Mind and that is God’s. God’s wisdom is Divine. It is not contained within the material senses. The material senses cannot possess the knowledge and information that is of a Divine Nature. It’s that simple.

Knowing but not using this principle is where I made my mistake. I am usually diligent in watching my thoughts. In recent years, I have sharpened my ability to recognize the false testimony of the mortal mind and its senses and I can usually squash it with God’s Truth every time I try. If you learn anything from reading this article, I hope that it’s that you can receive Divine Healing through prayer and that it happens all of the time. The power and ability for this comes from God, but each of us has the ability to facilitate it.

When I decided to pray, I laid down on my bed with my eyes closed. Then, I calmed my thoughts and focussed on God. I said to him, “Father, I know you can always hear me. I want you to know that I am grateful to you for giving me life. Thank you. I live and exist in your consciousness. You are the one true Living God. I am your creation. I am your image and likeness.”

I continued to focus my thoughts on my relationship with God. I went into deep contemplation about how my consciousness exists in His Divine Kingdom. I prayed, “I give myself to you. I serve only you. I ask for your intervention to heal me, as only You can.” I began to think about how there is no intelligence in the material body. I focussed on God, the highest form of life and of being. I recognized my divine nature as His creation. It was comforting to have this knowledge and when you can recognize that there is a higher level of existence that exists within His Supreme consciousness, you understand that there is nothing to fear.

Fearful thoughts are the primary cause of sin, disease and death, but they are easily defeated with the affirmation that God is the primary source of all True intelligence. This is why I value being watchful in my thinking. God’s Divine Love is comforting and destroys all fear. The destruction of fear causes all sin, sickness and death to vanish.

I continued to pray quietly and silently. I remained calm and still. I continued to focus on His Love for me, asking Him again to heal me. I recited the Scientific Statement of Being, a statement about the true nature of man. It was written by Mary Baker Eddy and it is based on the teachings of Jesus, who controlled matter through Divine Understanding. Jesus not only told the world that God is the source of all intelligence, but he also demonstrated the power and authority of this intelligence over the material world.

There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter. All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all. Spirit is immortal Truth; matter is mortal error. Spirit is the real and eternal; matter is the unreal and temporal. Spirit is God, and man is His image and likeness. Therefore man is not material; he is spiritual.

Prayer is a very special tool we have. It enables us to hear God and focus on Him. Though we already live in His consciousness, we must make the effort to silence the senses and spend time with Him. We must guard our thoughts and quash the false testimony of the material senses. God is the highest authority! He is our creator! When faced with something that contradicts this, simply say “NO!” and declare your independence from it. Occupy your thoughts with Divine Love and you will find freedom. Or, you can ask yourself, “what are you afraid of?”

When you realize that there is nothing to fear you will find yourself free as well. Pray as often as you like, but realize it is one of the most powerful tools available to us. We can use it any time we want as often as we want and there isn’t any way that anyone or anything else can censor your prayers to God.
